Clock Configuration Options Explained

How the Clock Setting and each Employee Setting work together to decide how employees punch.

The GOtime5 time clock offers several ways for employees to authenticate when they punch in or out. The method an employee uses is decided by two settings working together: the Clock Setting on the device, and the Employee Setting on that employee's profile.

Clock Settings

The Clock Setting is the primary authentication method configured on the GOtime5 clock itself. It applies to every employee whose Employee Setting is Device Default.

Clock SettingHow Employees Punch
Fingerprint OnlyScan their enrolled fingerprint.
Badge OnlyScan their assigned badge.
Badge + FingerprintScan their badge, then their fingerprint. This provides two-factor authentication.
User List + FingerprintSelect their name from the user list and scan their fingerprint, or just scan their fingerprint.
User List + PINSelect their name from the user list and enter their PIN, or just enter their PIN.
User ID + FingerprintEnter their User ID, then scan their fingerprint.
User ID + PINEnter their User ID, then their PIN.

Employee Settings

The Employee Setting is assigned to an individual employee's profile in the TimeTrakGO web portal. It either follows the clock or overrides it for that one employee.

Employee SettingHow the Employee Punches
Device DefaultUses whatever the Clock Setting is, such as fingerprint, badge, or PIN.
Badge OnlyScans their badge only. The clock checks for a valid badge and accepts the punch.
ID & PINEnters their User ID when prompted, then their PIN.

How the Settings Work Together

For each punch, the GOtime5 checks both the Clock Setting and the employee's Employee Setting. Employees set to Device Default follow the clock. Employees set to Badge Only or ID & PIN use that method instead, no matter how the clock is configured.

For example, on a clock set to Badge + Fingerprint:

Employee SettingWhat the Employee Does
Device DefaultScans their badge, then their fingerprint
Badge OnlyScans their badge only
ID & PINEnters their User ID, then their PIN

This lets you set one method for most of your team at the clock, then make exceptions for individual employees, such as someone whose fingerprint doesn't read reliably.

Tip: If an employee is prompted for a method they don't expect, check both settings. The Employee Setting on their profile may be overriding the clock, or the reverse.
