How to Use Your RFID Proximity Badge

This guide provides information on how to properly use and care for your RFID proximity badge with the GOtime5 time clock.



 

How it Works The GOtime5 time clock uses an RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) proximity reader to communicate with your time card badge. The badge itself emits a signal that the clock's reader picks up when the badge is held within range.


Using the Badge at the Clock To clock in or out, simply place your RFID card in the general area of the proximity reader. The reader is located just above the fingerprint sensor on the GOtime5, and it is marked with an image of a card. The clock is designed to read the card's signal at a distance of up to 2 inches, so you do not need to physically tap the card against the clock's surface.


Important Considerations for Badge Care

• Hole Punching: If you need to punch a hole in your RFID card for a lanyard or a clip, it is critical to use a specialized hole punch designed for RFID cards. A standard hole punch can damage the internal antenna or microchip, rendering the card unusable.
• Storage: To prevent damage and ensure the longevity of your badge, avoid storing it in places where it could be exposed to extreme heat or cold. Also, be mindful of where you place the card, as bending or creasing it can damage the internal components.
• Magnetic Interference: Keep your RFID badge away from strong magnets, which can interfere with the card's signal and potentially corrupt the data on the chip.
